A Message from Rita Kimball ~ Principal, Washington Elementary
Washington’s diversity, which includes many cultures and language backgrounds, provides a very rich environment for students, teachers, and the community.
Our mission at Washington is to engage and support all students in achieving high academic standards. To accomplish this goal, we must address the varying student achievement needs, as reflected in local, state, and federal assessment measures.
Through staff commitment, continued professional development, parent involvement, and community awareness, we are creating an environment at Washington that provides for the following:
- Complex learning strategies and curriculum taught at every grade level.
- Equitable access to curriculum, programs, and materials aligned with state and local standards regardless of race or achievement level.
- A school site where multiple cultural perspectives and experiences are valued and people of all colors feel respected and welcomed.
- A school site where practices that encourage bias are challenged, discussed openly, and eliminated.
- Celebration of all groups throughout the curriculum and school events.
- School values observed throughout the school:
RESPECT: Children will grow to respect themselves, each other, their community, the earth and humanity. COOPERATION: A caring circle of respect will nurture a sense of shared ownership in work and play.
RESPONSIBILITY: A caring circle of respect will heighten expectations for all students and their responsibility to cultivate the various kinds of intelligence: social, emotional, academic, creative, spatial, artistic, and kinesthetic.
WISE DECISIONS: Children will be guided to become effective participants in making wise decisions in a rapidly changing world.
SOLVING PROBLEMS: Children will be involved in solving problems, leading them to become intellectually and socially fulfilled persons and caring community members.
